All about the Bass…Ensemble!! Performing Green Day’s ‘Holiday’

April 5th, 2015|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Good morning! Check out this crazy video concept, which is a bass guitar ensemble performing Green Day's 'Holiday' It's been a while since I've posted (lots of stuff going on at home) but today I had the chance to try out some new video software, being Adobe Premiere Elements 13. I've been meaning to create multisplit screen videos for my students and this piece was the perfect experiment! This arrangement started out as a bit of a joke between a group of bass students [...]

Royal Blood ‘Full Band’ cover of ‘Figure it Out’

February 1st, 2015|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Good morning! So after a fair amount of requests, I've finally got round to covering 'Figure it Out' by Royal Blood. For this version, Philip Page plays drums on this jam, and we recorded this with a bit of a laugh of using various cameras to capture different angles (as you can probably tell by the editing!) I'm using my 'fake guitar' sound for this cover which is similar in style to what Mike Kerr of Royal Blood does, featuring POG2s, various boss pedals. [...]

Saturday night off and a free house? Time to make some noise!

November 15th, 2014|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

Tonight was meant to be time for me to fix up my bass pedalboard for shows coming up over the next months. In the end however, I decided to have a bit of a jam, making a video in the process! Its a medley of various guitar riffs such as Iron Man, Cochise etc demonstrating how much you can fill in the mix with this setup that has been popularised by Royal Blood. I see it as a great way to beef up the [...]

(They Long to Be) Close to You – Acoustic Cover

October 25th, 2014|Categories: Guitar|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

http://http://youtu.be/RKYYXpV4U98 I've uploaded a new song Close to You by the Carpenters, which is arrangement performed by Tommy Emmanuel. It was a good opportunitiy for me to test out a new recording setting (using Allen & Heath QU16 as a recording interface) and so this it the first time I've recorded an acoustic performance using close mics instead of the camcorder's microphone. This is the version of the song I originally saw: http://youtu.be/BoeuXk1j01c And this is the music that was posted a Tommy [...]

Come on Over – New Royal Blood Cover

September 11th, 2014|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

[youtube=http://youtu.be/oEjUYu86fps] In only a couple of lessons into my new term it has dawned on me how popular Royal Blood has become (especially with the bass kids!). I was teaching the main riff to this song and thought I'd have a go at recording the rest of 'Come on Over' the moment I got in from teaching! Although not on camera, this was also a chance for me to try out my new audio interface (Allen & Heath QU16) so that I could get [...]

Little Monster – a new Royal Blood cover!

August 6th, 2014|Categories: Bass, Recording|2 Comments

After the success of the previous cover of 'Out of the Black' (which is just under 1000 views within two weeks!) I've decided to post another Royal Blood cover, this time performing 'Little Monster'. I also play this with my functions band DisCovered (www.wearediscovered.co.uk) so wasn't too much hassle to learn or design the pedalboard for this one! This is played in Drop D (rather than the weird C tuning in the original)http://http://youtu.be/tL7SeRxYzq8 Below is a similar write-up to last time, but with some [...]

Royal Blood – Out of the Black Bass Cover

July 19th, 2014|Categories: Uncategorized|2 Comments

[youtube=http://youtu.be/tVCJF_L5zog]This is a bass guitar cover of Royal Blood's 'Out of the Black' performed by Adam Flanagan. A very challenging song to play (due to the cues on the pedalboard) but very fun to play none the less! Now get comfy...'The huge sound that Mike Kerr creates is one of a mystery to most and no doubt many people are looking to unlock the secret to his tone. The majority have figured that with a combination of Bi-Amping different loop signals from the bass and [...]

Happy new year y'all! Been pretty busy over the christmas period producing a fair amount of projects including new demos for DisCovered which are coming soon! Acoustic Guitar Recording in one great article

September 18th, 2013|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |0 Comments

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWMJVicmwT8 As some of you may have seen that I've recently been recording videos of myself performing solo guitar of which I will be adding more to the line-up very soon! Upon my usual browsing of music based websites I came across this article: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/easy-ways-to-record-acoustic-guitar-584377 It is about recording techniques for acoustic guitar and very informative. But the part that really surprised me was the video used to show how a single mic's placement can really affect the tone, which is what the video [...]
